What is the Piano Teachers Book Club?

Whether you've been on the book club waitlist OR if this is your first time hearing about it, here's what it's not.

  • Piano Teachers Book Club is not a stuffy, pretentious group of musicians who gather and talk in lofty terms and look down on people who ask questions.

  • It's not a place where you have to feel worried about asking questions or feeling like a beginner in a topic or area of study.

  • It's not a place where you have to arrive with every page read and the margins full of highly intellectual notes to enjoy the conversation and discussions.

Simply put: the Piano Teachers Book Club is a vibrant, welcoming and joy-filled group of passionate music educators from around the world who come from a variety of backgrounds (with 0-40+ years of teaching experience) and enjoy discussing and learning about piano teaching so they can be the best teachers for their diverse students. And it's a beautiful thing!

If you've been wanting to be a part of a community of supportive piano teacher friends who will encourage you in teaching struggles and generously share ideas and resources with kindness, then this is the place for you.

For just $4/mo (less than a latte or croissant) you get:

  • custom reading plan with bite-size goals

  • reflection questions designed to help you apply the book to your own studio and teaching

  • access to our member portal and private community for discussion

  • monthly live meetup on Zoom to discuss the book and brainstorm with fellow teachers

  • replay of all meetups

  • ...and other bonuses along the way 😉

Our first Spring Meetup will be Friday, March 27 at 12:00pm EST. We'll share a Zoom link in a future email to our subscribers and also post it in our new member portal. We'll also record/upload the recording to your portal if you'd like to watch later! We'll also share a calendar with all the dates/times of our spring book club Zoom meetups, but they typically occur on Fridays in late morning/early afternoon.

You can purchase "Bright Not Broken" from *Amazon as a hardcopy (new or used), Kindle or Audio book format or find it from other booksellers.

"Bright Not Broken: Gifted Kids, ADHD and Autism (Why twice-exceptional children are stuck and how to help them)" by Diane Kennedy and Rebecca Banks

A non-fiction (but not heavy/dense) book that highlights how teachers, professionals, school systems and support systems are potentially failing "2E" (twice-exceptional= two neurodivergence such as autism + ADHD, etc.) children. It sheds light on this marvelous population of individuals with stories and anecdotes from the authors and provides a "whole-child model for helping support a child's innate gifts while also intervening to support the deficits." A truly inspiring and enjoyable but educational read for all teachers, even if you've never taught neurodivergent learners or aren't currently.
