Welcome and meet Elizabeth

Updated: Sep 6

Hi everyone, and welcome to the first post on the Creative Piano Pedagogy Blog! Thank you for taking time to stop by, and I hope this will be the start of something that will be a positive help to teachers and music educators in the music/pedagogy community. My name is Elizabeth, and I'm a piano instructor, researcher and presenter who specializes in creative pedagogy and special learners, particularly for students with attention deficits and autism.

A little bit about me:

ree

-I live in Raleigh, NC -I've been playing piano since age 3 (it was a life-saver for my little ADHD self!) -I teach private/group piano to students of all ages (3-82), experience (beginner to conservatory) and abilities (ADD/ADHD, Asperger's, autism, PDD-NOS, anxiety, low muscle-tone, physical/hearing/vision impairments, developmental delays, personality disorders, exceptional learners/savants) -I also love being involved with church music as an organist/choir director and working with senior adults on community music projects When I'm not teaching music/piano, I love to cook, bake, travel, spend time with friends and family, enjoy nature, drink coffee/tea, read, and soak in a good British mystery. A bit of a lifelong learner, I earned a Doctor of Music Arts (DMA) in Piano Pedagogy in 2019, and have previously earned a MM in Piano Performance/Pedagogy and a BA in Music Ed./piano. I love all the nitty-gritty of teaching: customizing the learning process for each student, getting to know each students' learning style and how we can communicate, and finding ways to keep students engaged during lessons, especially those with ADD/ADHD.

Since March, all of my teaching has been completely virtual, which has been quite a learning curve (for me) and a long journey...I'm sure you can relate. I have a really fun and hopefully helpful blog post this week on some simple, easy-to-do games that you and your students can do virtually, and these can be adapted for students of any age/level!

Be sure to subscribe so you won't miss the new posts, and thank you again for stopping by!

Cheers,

Elizabeth
